Traffic Modifications for the Maryland Cycling Classic This Sunday, September 4th

 All roads along the race route will be closed to traffic during the event with parking restrictions in effect; Motorists urged to plan ahead and travel either before or after the event this Sunday  

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists of the road closures and parking restrictions that will be implemented for the inaugural 2022 Maryland Cycling Classic which will be held on Sunday, September 4, 2022.  The 120.4-mile race will begin at 1:30 p.m. in Sparks, MD (Baltimore County) and will enter Central Baltimore City at approximately 4:30 p.m. with an estimated finish time of 6:00 p.m. along Pratt Street at Market Place.

The first portion of the race will be completed in Baltimore County.  Cyclists will leave the county by traveling south along Falls Road into Baltimore City, which is expected to occur around 4:30 p.m.  From Falls Road, participants will turn left on Lanvale Street to officially enter the ‘city circuit’ of the race.  The race will proceed right on St. Paul Street, right on E. Lombard Street, left on Hopkins Plaza, left on E. Pratt Street, right on S. Central Avenue, left on Dock Street, left on S. Caroline Street, right on Fleet Street, left on S Broadway (cyclists left of median), left on E. Baltimore Street, right on N. Central Ave (cyclists left of median), left on E. Madison Street, left on Ensor Street/Hillen Road (cyclists stay right), right on Fallsway/Jones Falls Trail, left on E. Madison Street, right on N. Calvert Street, right on Federal Street, left on Barclay Street, left on E. Lafayette Avenue, left on St. Paul Street, right on E. Lombard Street, left on Hopkins Plaza, and left on E. Pratt Street, to finish at Market Place.

During the event, cyclists will complete 4.5 laps around the 7.5-mile city circuit which will be CLOSED TO VEHICULAR TRAFFIC.  Roadways along the city circuit will begin closing at approximately 1:30 p.m. and will be fully closed by 4:00 p.m.  Roadways will be reopened as soon as possible after the race, but may need to remain in-place until all event-related activity is safely out of the roadway.

Once the road closures are implemented, motorists will be rerouted to alternate routes and will be allowed to cross the course wherever possible, as directed by the Baltimore City Police (BPD) and Transportation Enforcement Officers (TEO’s).  Detour information will be provided using signs and electronic message boards. 

Motorists should be advised that traveling from inside the footprint of the race to destinations beyond the race borders (and vice versa) will be difficult during this event.  Traffic stops will be implemented for the safety of participants, and motorists will encounter delays.  Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan ahead for this event by using alternate routes to avoid the race circuit and allowing additional travel time on Sunday.  The BPD, along with TEO’s and event staff will help to manage and direct traffic on Sunday.  Motorists should adhere to their direction and guidance for everyone’s safety.

Motorists are also urged to pay close attention to posted parking restrictions throughout the weekend, as parking restrictions will be implemented along the entire race route in Baltimore City.  The majority of parking restrictions start at 8:00 a.m. on race day, and vehicles parked in violation will be ticketed and towed/relocated.  Motorists with questions concerning the location of their vehicles should call 311. 

In preparation for the event, the following road closures will be implemented:

Road closures on Friday, September 2^nd from 10:00 a.m. to midnight

• Lancaster Street between S. Exeter Street and Pratt Street

Road closures from Saturday, September 3^rd at 5:00 a.m. to Sunday, September 4^th at 6:00 p.m.

• Market Place between Water Street and Pratt Street
• Pratt Street between Gay Street and President Street (partial closure on Saturday, full closure on Sunday)

Road closures on Sunday, September 4^th from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

• Falls Road between Lake Avenue and St. Paul Street
• Lombard Street between Light Street and Hopkins Plaza
• Lombard Street between President Street and Gay Street
• St. Paul Street between Lafayette Avenue and W. Lombard Street
• Water Street between Market Place and S. Frederick Street
• Pratt Street between Hopkins Plaza and Central Avenue (partial closure on Saturday, full closure on Sunday)
• Central Avenue between Madison Street and Dock Street (segments)
• Dock Street between Central Avenue and S. Caroline Street
• S. Caroline Street between Dock Street and Fleet Street
• Fleet Street between S. Caroline Street and Broadway

Residents should be advised that road closure and race impact times are approximate and may change on race day.  Motorists should use caution and reduce speeds if traveling through and around the race circuit due to the increase in pedestrian, bicycle, and event traffic. 

Charm City Circulator (CCC) patrons should be aware that CCC bus operations will be modified on race day.  On Sunday, September 4, 2022, the following route modifications will be implemented from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.:

• The CCC’s Green Route will not be in operation during this time;
• The CCC’s Orange Route will operate on a modified route during this time.  The route will begin at the B&O Museum, and will turn left on Poppleton Street, right on W. Baltimore Street, right on Greene Street, right on W. Lombard Street, right onto Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, left on W. Baltimore Street, left on Arlington Avenue, and left on W. Pratt Street back to the B&O Museum.

Patrons riding the CCC on race day may experience delays and longer than normal wait times.  Additional information can be found on the CCC website.

Traffic Modifications for Weekend Baltimore Orioles Home Games

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists that temporary traffic modifications will be in effect for the Baltimore Orioles home games this weekend which will be held at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

Motorists should be advised that all parking restrictions and residential permit parking regulations will be strictly enforced in the vicinity of the stadium during each game.  Patrons who do not have a parking permit for any of the stadium lots are strongly encouraged to use public transportation.  With a variety of transit options including the Metro Subway, Light Rail, Park and Ride express bus services, and the Charm City Circulator, fans can easily use mass transit from numerous locations in and around Baltimore to get to the stadium. 

Baseball fans that drive to the games should utilize commercial parking facilities north of the stadium and avoid parking in area neighborhoods.  Transportation Enforcement Officers will enforce all posted parking restrictions and residential permit parking regulations in the vicinity of the stadium.  Vehicles parked in violation will be ticketed and towed.  Patrons with questions concerning the location of their vehicles should call 311. 

In preparation for Friday’s game, the following streets will be closed on Friday, September 2, 2022 starting at approximately 4:00 p.m.:

• Eutaw Street from Pratt to Camden Streets
• Camden Street from Howard to Russell Streets
• Hamburg Street from Russell to Leadenhall Streets
• Washington Boulevard from Paca to Greene Streets

In addition, the following parking restrictions will be implemented on Friday, September 2, 2022 beginning at 4:00 p.m.:

• East side of Greene Street from Lombard Street to Washington Boulevard
• East side of Eutaw Street from Pratt to Lombard Streets
• North side of Conway Street from Charles to Sharp Streets

The road closures and parking restrictions listed above will also be implemented on Saturday, September 3, 2022 starting at approximately 4:00 p.m., Sunday, September 4, 2022 starting at approximately 10:00 a.m., and Monday, September 5, 2022 (Labor Day) starting at approximately 10:00 a.m.

Transportation Enforcement Officers will be stationed at key intersections to assist with the movement of traffic in the downtown area.  Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for pedestrians, especially when approaching designated crosswalks.

Traffic Modifications for the Charles Street 12-Miler

This Saturday, September 3, 2022, traffic modifications will be in effect for Charles Street 12-Miler, which kicks off at 7:30 a.m.

The race begins in Towson (Baltimore County) along Kenilworth Drive.  Participants will race through Towson and enter the city on N. Charles Street from Stevenson Lane.  The race will proceed south along N. Charles Street, left on Lee Street, right on Light Street, left on Key Highway, and left on the Key Highway extension to finish at Tide Point in front of Under Armour.

In preparation for the event, one lane of traffic will be coned off for runners along the race route wherever possible with parking restrictions in effect.  Citizens should be advised that temporary traffic stops WILL be implemented along the race route for the safety of participants. 

These traffic stops will cause traffic congestion and delays, so motorists are urged to plan ahead by altering travel times and using alternate routes away from the race route.  Motorists should also allow additional travel time and be on the watch for pedestrians and traffic control personnel.

Traffic Modifications for the Baltimore Farmers' Market & Bazaar

This Sunday, traffic modifications will be in effect for the Baltimore Farmers' Market & Bazaar, which is held under the Jones Falls Expressway along Saratoga Street between Holliday and Gay Streets.

On Sunday, September 4, 2022, the following streets will be closed to through traffic from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with detours in effect:

• Hillen Street from Fallsway to Holliday Street
• Holliday Street from Pleasant Street to Saratoga Street
• Holliday Street at Pleasant Street off ramp left lane closure

Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.
