Traffic Modifications for the African American Festival

Friday Aug 10th, 2018

Citizens are encouraged to use public transportation or rideshare to attend the event

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists of the traffic modifications which will be in effect for the African American Festival.  The event will be held this weekend, Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Druid Hill Park.

Because of the large number of people expected to attend, patrons are strongly encouraged to use public transportation, including MTA buses or the Metro SubwayLink.  The Metro SubwayLink serves the Mondawmin Transit Center along with numerous bus routes, and transit patrons arriving at Mondawmin are invited to walk a block or two west and catch the Afram Shuttle that departs from the Overflow Parking Lot starting at noon each day, making it easy for patrons to use mass transit to access the festival.  For information on the Metro SubwayLink or bus routes that stop at the Mondawmin Transit Center, visit mta.maryland.gov.

For citizens that choose to drive to the event, parking will be available in Druid Hill Park.  Motorists should enter the park near the Rawlings Conservatory and follow signs to the designated parking area.  Overflow parking will be available at Mondawmin Mall once the parking area is full in Druid Hill Park.  The overflow parking area is on the western part of the mall parking lot (near Tioga Parkway) and will be cordoned off and signed.  Citizens should follow signs at Mondawmin Mall to the designated parking area where a free shuttle service will be available to take patrons back and forth to the festival.

In addition, bicycle racks will be available near the tennis courts in Druid Hill Park for citizens who chose to bike to the festival, and lyft will be offering special discounts for patrons who share a ride to the event.  New lyft riders can save $5 off their first two rides by using code AFRAM2018

During the festival, westbound Wyman Park Drive/Cedar Avenue/ East Drive will be closed to through traffic in Druid Hill Park throughout the weekend, although drop-off for festival attendees will be permitted.    Motorists should be advised that all posted parking restrictions in the vicinity of the park will be strictly enforced, and those who park in violation will be ticketed and relocated.  Citizens with questions concerning the location of their vehicle should call 311.
