Department of Transportation Gives Limited Speeders an Unexpected Break

Baltimore, MD (August 14, 2017) – Today, the Baltimore City Department of Transportation announced that Baltimore speeders will get a break on day one of the program.  Although the speed readings were accurate, the Department will void a specific group of automated speed camera citations that were issued in duplicate in order to alleviate potential confusion.

On August 07 and August 08, 2017, the city’s speed camera vendor inadvertently mailed some motorists two copies of the same Maryland Civil Citation for speed camera violations that occurred only on July 31, 2017.  Speed camera violations occurring on other dates are not impacted, as the issue was quickly resolved and duplicate violations were not mailed for any other days. 

As a proactive measure, the City of Baltimore will dismiss these citations to avoid potential confusion.  A letter has been mailed to motorists who received two citations of the same kind explaining that the violations have been voided and no fines will be assessed.
